Definition

General

To recline or be in a flat position without taking an object; the forms are lie, lay and lain.

Example: The signed copy lay on the desk overnight.

Also known as: lies, lying, lay, lain

Context: This is distinct from lie meaning say something untrue, whose past form is lied.
