Definition
Cross-government
Communications lines prepared in advance for a foreseeable incident or scenario so they can be quickly updated, cleared and used if it occurs.
Example: Prepare drawer lines before the crisis, when nobody is typing “URGENT PLS CLEAR” in all caps.
Also known as: drawer line, drawer statement, drawer statements, drawer media statement, drawer media statements
Context: ‘Drawer lines’ is practitioner shorthand; formal guidance may use ‘drawer statements’ or ‘drawer media statements’. The facts and clearance still need to be updated when an incident occurs.
