Use open as the adjective for a current state or operating hours. Use opened for the completed action of opening something.

Open (adjective)

Use when

You describe the present state or operating hours of an office, counter, portal, facility or service.

Example

“The service centre is open from 8.30 am to 5 pm.”

Opened (verb)

Use when

You describe the action of opening something or the event at which it began operating.

Example

“The service centre was officially opened in 2024.”

Quick check

the counter is opened from 8.30 am, the portal is opened until Friday, the office was open by the Minister

Usage note

Open can also be a verb, as in the counter opens at 8.30 am. Was opened is correct when an action or opening event is intended.
