Deadline

Use when

You mean the latest time by which work must be completed or submitted.

Example

“The deadline for nominations is 30 September.”

Dateline

Use when

You mean the line in a news report identifying where and often when the report was filed.

Example

“The article carried a Singapore dateline.”
